Last week SaaS Browser crossed 500,000 indexed SaaS products. That is half a million distinct pieces of software sold as a service, each one with a homepage, a pricing page, and someone somewhere hoping you will sign up.
When I started building SaaS Browser, the goal was to index at least 50,000. That felt ambitious at the time. Fifty thousand SaaS products seemed like it would cover the market with room to spare. We passed that number and kept going, and the crawler has never once run out of things to find. The honest reaction to 500,000 is not pride in the index, it is disbelief at how much software is being built.
How Many SaaS Companies Are There?
There are more than 500,000 SaaS products on the internet as of August 2026, based on the homepages SaaS Browser has crawled and classified. We are currently discovering around 29,000 new ones every month, and roughly 2.4% of all the homepages we analyze now turn out to be a SaaS product, up from about 0.6% in 2014.
The Share of the Web That Is SaaS Keeps Climbing
The single most interesting chart we have is the one at the top of this post, and it is not the running total, it is the ratio. Every month we analyze tens of thousands of homepages and classify what they are. Plotting the percentage that turn out to be SaaS strips out how hard we happen to be crawling in any given month and shows what is actually changing about the web.
In 2014, roughly one in every 160 homepages we looked at was a SaaS product. Today it is closer to one in 40. The share has quadrupled, and it has done so through the whole period, not just the tail.
AI is clearly playing a big part in the recent acceleration. The curve steepens after ChatGPT and steepens again after coding agents arrived, which is exactly what you would expect when building and launching software gets dramatically cheaper. But the important detail is what the line was doing before any of that. It was already going up, steadily, for the better part of a decade. Cheaper hosting, better frameworks, payment infrastructure that anyone can plug in, and a generation of founders who grew up expecting to sell software by subscription got us most of the way here. AI did not start this trend. It poured fuel on one that was already burning. We looked at the AI slice of that curve in more detail in The Meteoric Rise of AI SaaS Apps.
How Many New SaaS Products Launch Each Month

This one is our discovery rate rather than a measure of the market, so the spikes say as much about our crawling capacity as they do about the world. Read the direction, not the bumps. We are now finding on the order of 29,000 new SaaS products a month, and the floor keeps rising.
Where SaaS Is Being Built
Of the SaaS we can place geographically, the United States still accounts for roughly half. What stands out further down the table is not the ranking but the median age column: India, the UAE, and Nigeria all have significantly younger SaaS scenes than the established markets, and India in particular is adding new products at a rate close to the United States despite having a fifth of the total. The Fastest Growing SaaS Categories
Growth is not spread evenly. Fintech dominates the raw numbers, while the fastest percentage growth is happening in categories where an AI model can do most of the work: document conversion, resume screening, workflow automation, and AutoML.
| Category | New (30d) | Total | Growth Rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stock Trading & Brokerage Platforms | 1,212 | 13,027 | +9.3% |
| Workflow Automation & RPA | 657 | 6,716 | +9.8% |
| AI-powered Resume Screening Tools | 466 | 7,124 | +6.5% |
| Sales Automation Software | 463 | 6,304 | +7.3% |
| Financial Planning & Budgeting Tools | 423 | 4,598 | +9.2% |
| AutoML Platforms | 412 | 4,254 | +9.7% |
| PDF Editing & Conversion Tools | 406 | 2,660 | +15.3% |
| School Management Software | 385 | 4,490 | +8.6% |
| Health & Fitness Tracking | 361 | 5,234 | +6.9% |
| Learning and Education Platforms | 330 | 7,277 | +4.5% |
PDF editing tools growing 15.3% in a single month is the clearest signal in the table. That is a mature, unglamorous category that has existed for decades, and it is expanding faster than anything else because the cost of building a competent one has fallen through the floor. If you want to see how these category trends have developed, Where the SaaS Market Is Headed covers the same data a year earlier.
Almost Half of SaaS Now Mentions AI
45.1% of the SaaS companies in our index mention AI somewhere on their site. Some of that is genuine product, some of it is a line on a landing page, and telling the two apart is getting harder every month. Either way, saying you use AI has stopped being a differentiator. When nearly half the market claims it, it is table stakes.
SaaS Pricing Has Not Moved Much
Across the index, the median entry-level plan is $19 a month and the median premium plan is $69 a month. Those numbers are remarkably stable given how much the supply side has changed. More products chasing the same buyers usually means downward pressure on price, and with half a million products competing for attention, the interesting question is how long that $19 floor holds. We argued in The New Economics of SaaS in the AI Age that it will not hold for long.
Affiliate Programs Are Still Underused
We track 32,584 affiliate programs, which is only 6.5% of all SaaS. The median commission is 25%. In a market this crowded, where getting noticed is the hardest part of the job, it is surprising that 93.5% of SaaS companies have no partner channel at all. You can browse the ones that do exist in SaaS with affiliate programs worth promoting.
And a Third of Them Will Be Gone
The number that keeps this all in perspective: 30% of the sites we index go offline within a year of us first finding them. Half a million SaaS products exist today, and a large slice of them will not exist next summer. The barrier to launching has collapsed, but the barrier to surviving has not moved at all. Building is cheap now. Distribution, retention, and staying alive are exactly as hard as they always were. We break that number down by category in Track SaaS Churn and Free Trials by Category.
